Red Rot Cocktail is a solution used by those who work on old books which is made to combat what is called red rot in leather. You've come across it if you've picked up an old leather book and your hands come away with a powdery red substance. What this powder is is the tanning failing in the leather itself causing it to "rot". Red rot cocktail is a way to effectively stop that process and seal the book to be put back on your shelf and handled for many years to come. Red rot is not a rot and not "contagious" to other books but it sure is messy.
So, here's my playful ode to part of the book repair process. This bitters blend has a reddish hue and earthy sweetness with beetroot plus the delightfully mushroomy sweetness of puer tea. Combined with cacao, vanilla, and a touch of smoke from lapsang souchong, I wanted to offer something that makes me think of old books and working with leather, and this would pair with a number of cocktails where you'll be wanting to don your best jacket with leather elbow pads to read from only the dustiest of tomes while pondering times past
Bitters make a lovely flavor addition to seltzer drinks, herbal mocktails, cocktails, or as a unique sense experience! These bitters may also be used as a classic digestive bitter with a few drops on the tongue. Each bottle contains 1oz of liquid.
Ingredients:
Alcohol infused with beetroot, cacao husk, puer tea, lapsang souchong tea, gentian, and vanilla.
