Piper at the Gates of Dawn Herbal Tisane

Piper at the Gates of Dawn Herbal Tisane

15.00

In the holy kingdom of the night,

Watched by the serene and distant moon,

You can hear His pipings drifting atop the reverie-

An ode to those wild and sacred things amidst the rushes.

Sense Notes:

Herbaceous | Sweet | Woodsy

Piper at the Gates of Dawn was created after its namesake chapter from The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame. The name and imagery has been in my mind since I reread the chapter, where beloved childhood characters Rat and Mole stumble upon the unnamed god Pan and the glorious mysteries of the natural world. The chapter is full of delightful sensory descriptions of the night creatures plying their trades and the dwindling of the day in forest and on riverside. This tisane is an ode to the unfettered wild, with sweet fern and meadowsweet offering up their luscious herbaceous fragrance to meet with the rich earthiness of dandelion root, nettle, and familiar comforting sage. Enjoy this brew as you enter your nighttime wanderings in the silver kingdom ruled over by the serene moonlight, or perhaps as the piping begins and golden wisps of light begin alighting the world around you.

As an herbal tisane, I would recommend an infusion of 1-2 tablespoon of loose tea per 8 oz of hot water and infusing for at least 5 minutes, but it can easily and deliciously go for longer. The flavors and scent will change the longer it steeps, so be sure to take some time while your brew infuses to experience the journey.
